Ninestar battles OEMs over firmware
- Ninestar of China, owner of Lexmark, is launching new solution which is being advertised as helping customers use its non-OEM toner cartridges by getting around manufacturer’s firmware that prevents non-OEM cartridges
- Named the “Upgrade without Unpacking Solution”, updates cartridges affected by firmware upgrades without opening the packaging
- Claims that its “patented design”, “first-to-market” solution’s “cloud sync data enables you to upgrade affected products at anytime and anywhere’
- Solution is designed to stop OEM printer/MFP firmware upgrades that stop users from using third party cartridges
