Its one of my favorite time’s of year here in Houston – Houston Livestock Rodeo Time! Go Texan day is Friday February 22, 2019, and the Championship BBQ contest begins February 21 – 23rd of 2019. The rodeo and concerts begin January 3, 2019 with Kacey Musgraves, and end Saturday March 16th with Brad Paisley. The 16th is the last day of the rodeo events and include the Rodeo Houston Super Series Championship. The crème del la crème of Rodeo Houston this year, is Mr. George Strait with guests Lyle Lovett and Robert Earl Keen, doing a special performance Sunday, March 17th. I’m going full Office Systems of Texas blog circle with this event, considering I blogged about George Strait back in 2015. I have never seen George Strait in concert and I am thrilled to say I am seeing him with countless others on March 17th. Rodeo season is perfectly timed here in Houston, typically there is a mix of a few warm days, and a few cold days, and a few showers – classic local weather. I love the carnival, the people watching, and the food of course. My favorite foods last year were sausage on a stick from Holmes Smokehouse ( classic ), deep fried cookie dough covered in bacon from Aunt Edmoes and The Original Minneapple Pie. You are sure to have heartburn, but boy it’s worth it. If you can get in to the Cookoff, you should. The BBQ is almost always excellent, and there typically are some shows in the evening that are always fun – this year Rich O’ Toole ( a Houston Native) and Will Southern ( Austin TX Native ) are slated to perform. If you have never been to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, my advise is to buy coupon books in advance, get there early, spread out all your meals, hydrate, and take it all in! My strongest recommendation is, do not wear your brand new boots if you haven’t broken them in!
