I recently read that a little over 70% of Americans are on social media DAILY. They use this as a method to communicate with each other, engage with news content, share information and entertain themselves.
In theory, I like the idea of social media. I have been able to re-connect with people who are hundreds of miles away and who I haven’t seen in many years. I have been able to see live videos of my Grand Daughter (who is the cutest by the way). I have also been able to see breaking news stories or bad weather situations as they develop by just pulling up the alerts on my phone.
The one thing about social media that I find frustrating, is how so many people are living a picture-perfect life. They are “So Excited” or “So Stoked” about all of life’s upcoming events. They always have an “Incredible” or “Remarkable” time at happenings they just attended. And it is amazing to me just how many political experts there are on my feeds every day. I guess when you are not standing face to face with the individuals you are “communicating” with, you don’t always have to be the real you. I think many are living out the Brad Paisley song…. they are so much cooler online.
Call me old fashion (Drew Miller) but I still prefer the face to face method of communicating. The being able to see the facial expression, to hear the voice inflections as the conversation unfolds….it truly lets you know what the other person is thinking. I guess that is one of the reasons I enjoy doing what I do as a salesperson so much. I have the privilege of meeting and communicating with real people about real situations and providing real solutions for them which then allows me to see the real satisfaction on their face when business concludes. I guess I’m….so much cooler offline??
