Lexmark devices are security risk – report

  • Multiple articles, including Washington Post newspaper, details a report published by the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, which is made up of a dozen representative from the U.S. Congress, as well as current and former government officials
  • States that the Pentagon (and all parts of the Department of Defense, Airforce, Army, Navy, Marines, etc.) is at risk of having classified info being accessed by the Chinese government through currently installed Lexmark printers and MFPs.
  • (Lexmark is now owned by Ninestar of China)
  • Other Chinese vendor products, including Lenovo laptops and GoPro video cameras are also a threat according to the report
  • “Chinese-built back doors in those products could give Beijing access to Pentagon Communications”
  • “poses a greater hacking risk than the nation can bear”


Lexmark parent makes acquisition

  • Ninestar of China, owner of Lexmark, announced it has acquired a 10% stake in Jadi Imaging Holdings of Malaysia
  • JIH is a manufacturer of toner and ink for printers and MFPs
  • Ninestar also agreed to buy toner from JIH to use in remanufactured non-OEM toner cartridges
