Hasta la vista Kepler

Kepler is a space observatory launched by NASA to discover Earth-size planets orbiting other stars. Named after astronomer Johannes Kepler, the spacecraft was launched on March7, 2009 and a price tag of $600 million.

The Kepler space telescope was planned to last 3.5 years but has spent the last decade scouring the sky looking for these look alike Earths that may contain life. As part of that mission, the craft send thousands of pictures of deep space and has found a whole host of exciting planets, many of which look like our own and are exciting candidates for life.

Unfortunately, the craft is running out of fuel (NASA doesn’t say what kind of fuel it uses and there are no fuel stations in space yet) so the craft will be put in sleep mode to save energy and attempt to ensure that has enough fuel left to beam the latest data haul to his handlers early in October 2018.
