Harvest Moon

Tonight, at about 7:19 PM, Moonrise will occur here in Houston heralding in the last of a trio of “Super Moons” we’ve had this summer. So called Super Moons occur when the moon reaches its full phase in the spot in the sky opposite from the sun.

This particular event is also called the Harvest Moon. Usually associated with autumn and the fall harvesting of crops, tonight’s full moon is actually the last full moon of the summer season. The Harvest moon is so called when the full moon occurs nearest to the September equinox.  Happy skygazing.
