We get quite a few service calls for “not able to send or receive faxes”. The majority of these fax related problems are due to a dead fax line or some type of noise on the line. Here’s how to troubleshoot for these problems… Unplug the fax line from the wall jack & connect a plain old corded telephone to the wall jack. Using the “test” phone call any number that will be answered by a person. Listen for static, echo, or any odd noises on the fax line. Request the person on the other end of the line to call you back on the fax line. Again, listen for any static, echo or odd noises on the fax line. If any odd noise is heard by you or the other person (or you do not hear a dial tone at all) contact your phone service provider.
