Bloom where you’re planted

My wife recently purchased a small plaque that we have since displayed. It is a picture of a beautiful rose blooming in a not so beautiful surrounding. The caption on this picture says, “Bloom where you’re planted.”
I can’t tell you how many times I have read this caption and it has caused me to reflect on all the wasted time I have spent planning in my mind the next step or dreaming of how things should or could be. Don’t get me wrong, it is always good to “plan your work then work your plan” … I use this method in my day to day and long-term activities.
The thing I’m talking about is taking your eyes off your current situation and dreaming of how life would be “if only”. When I catch myself doing this, I tend to get disappointed with where I am now. It makes the things that I want to do in my life seam unattainable. This usually leads to frustration with the here and now and causes me to NOT be the best me that I can be.
I have recently been trying a more focused approach. I find it VERY helpful to start my days in prayer. Then keep my eyes on the here and now. Don’t wish my current situations away…instead look for ways to make them more manageable and to turn a not so desirable situation into a better situation. When things don’t turn out how I want, I don’t dwell. I try to accept what happened, learn from it and go on to the next. And in all situations, I try to remember that life is short, and no matter how the surrounding look…” Bloom where you are Planted”
